New Zealand
’s Solitaire Lodge on
Lake
Tarawera
has gained two major honours at the 2006 World Travel Awards. It
has been voted both Australasia's Leading Resort and
New Zealand
’s Leading Resort.
The
10-suite five-star luxury lodge has gained an international
reputation for excellent service and attention to detail,
complemented by top New Zealand food and wine in one of the
world’s most outstanding locations, near Rotorua in the North
Island. It was one of
New Zealand
’s first luxury lodges, hosting many high-profile guests over
the past 30 years.
Solitaire
Lodge general manager, Callum Farnell who heads a team of 16
staff including three full-time chefs, accepted the awards today
at a gala ceremony in the
Caribbean
resort of Turks & Caicos. The World Travel Awards are an
annual event supported by travel agents worldwide and televised
by both BBC World and CNN. This year 167,000 international
travel professionals were asked to vote in the awards process.
The
secluded lodge complex has had a major redesign and
refurbishment in recent years to make the most of its native
bush setting on a private peninsula overlooking
Lake
Tarawera
. It includes 10 elegant, spacious suites sited to take in views
from floor to ceiling windows, a terraced spa pool, heliport,
float planes, and jetty access to luxury charter boats, and
smaller craft. Trout-fishing, boating, kayaking, bush walking,
thermal bathing and sightseeing are some of the many activities
available to guests. The lodge also has a reputation for
innovative
New Zealand
cuisine prepared using top local produce, complemented by a fine
New Zealand
wine cellar.
Callum
Farnell said receiving this high-level international
acknowledgment at the 2006 World Travel Awards was a special
honour for everyone associated with Solitaire.
“As
a long-standing member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World,
these awards fit well with our commitment to maintain the
highest standards of its trusted international hallmark.
“It
is particularly gratifying, not only for Solitaire Lodge but
also for Small Luxury Hotels, that we are recognised by the
travel industry as the leading resort in Australasia, in the
company of many other leading New Zealand, Pacific, French
Polynesian and Australian resorts.”
Solitaire
Lodge’s latest global recognition is expected to generate
significant interest from luxury travel connoisseurs around the
world.
